CDG & Associates

2/12/2001
Location: Addison

Business: CDG & Associates is a consulting firm specializing in the implementation and maintenance of high-end human resources
information systems, or HRIS, for Fortune 1000 companies, as well as public-sector organizations.

Top executive: Cynthia Driskill, president and chief executive

When founded: 1987

How long at present location? Two years

How did you choose your present location? We are a largely virtual company, with consultants spread out all over the country. For this reason, we chose to be on the Dallas North Tollway and north of LBJ Freeway to be convenient and easily accessible from Dallas/Fort Worth Airport.

No. of employees when founded: Five

No. of employees now: 95

How did you get your first financing? Cynthia Driskill funded the company from her own receivables.

Describe your company’s culture in one sentence: We are passionately committed to our employees and our clients; and that commitment, overlaid on a foundation of ethics and integrity, results in excellence for everyone involved with CDG.

What TV sitcom does your office most resemble? “ER” — because as our industry dictates, we’re frequently in “crisis mode” and pulling together as a team.

What are the longest and shortest commutes? One of our consultants, due to inclement weather, took 13 hours to get to Dallas from Reading, Pa. The shortest commute would be our payroll administrator’s — one block.

Cite an unusual fact or event that few people outside of the company know about: One of our “original five” employees has logged more than 4 million air miles during her employment with CDG.

What public figure do you believe could best run the company? We are searching for a person right now — a chief operating officer. We are looking for a Jack Lowe, founder of TDIndustries, which was named to the top 10 of Fortune magazine’s “100 Best Companies to Work For” in 1998, 1998 and 2000.

What is the most embarrassing moment in company history? We had a person in a trusted financial position steal from us. The fact that he’d been embezzling for many months was most embarrassing.

What are the most popular amenities or benefits you offer employees? The most interesting is that we expect home-office employees who are new parents to bring their babies to work with them for the first six months — so the baby and mother can bond. Our most popular benefit is that our paid time-off hours carry over and we can donate them to fellow employees in times of need.
